Rock Quarry : Granite Rip-Rap & Armour Stone
Central B.C. Coast Rock Quarry
The principals of Arthon control Bella Coola Rock Corporation (BCRock - www.BCRock.com), the owner of
an 80 acre waterfront property next to the town of Bella Coola in B.C.'s Central Coast region. A quarry permit has been
secured on the property, home of a former quarry and located adjacent to the BC Ferry terminal and barge loading ramp.
The long range plan includes for development of a deep sea ship loading terminal, capable of accommodating handimax and up to
panamax size ships. This plan will require an environmental assessment and rezoning of the lands. Currently, with the mine permit
in place, BCRock is able to deliver rip-rap and armour stone products through the use of the existing barge loading facilities.
The site's clear access to the pacific ocean ensures reasonable cost transportation of large rock products to the Vancouver and Seattle regions.
This keeps the BCRock property attractive in support of the pacific northwest's continued development of water-side infrastructure projects.
The local First Nations band, the Nuxalk, constitute over 50% of the population of the Central Coast region. BCRock has had numerous discussions
with both the band and the Regional District on the rock quarry and terminal operations. As well, the Bella Coola Harbour Authority has indicated support for
the use of the barge loading facility. Initial operations of the quarry will be for provision of rip-rap and armour stone.
Further discussions with the Harbour Authority, Regional District, and the Nuxalk Nation for integration and job creation strategies would be necessary for larger scale operations.
Designs have been completed by Villholth Jensen & Associates (see inset at left).
Applications for water licences with Navigable Waters Protection have also been made.
