Greetings,
You will be glad to hear that I broke down and purchased a pair of reading
glasses and p' s no longer look like a' s.
You may also be glad to hear that next week's schedule does NOT include the
addition of a night shift which is anticipated to start on May 19. We will
update you on this next week.
PLEASE NOTE :
THE HIGHWAY IS NOW A DESIGNATED 70 km/hr CONSTRUCTION SPEED ZONE.
ROAD CLOSURES
30 MINUTE closure :
Mon May 12 --> Thur May 15 @ 10:00 am
1 HOUR closure :
Mon May 12 --> Thur May 15 @ 1:00 pm
LONG WEEKEND .... NO WORK ON FRIDAY MAY 16 thru MONDAY MAY 19 inclusive.
Night Shift is projected to start on Tuesday, May 20th at 7pm.
Closures will be updated in the following week.
In the following week, Monday May 12 through Thursday May 15, Highway 97 road
closures north of Summerland will continue to include a HALF HOUR closure at
10:00 a.m. There will also be a 1 HOUR closure at 1:00 p.m. each weekday.
These closure times often are for a shorter period and may not, in fact, occur
at all, depending on drilling production on that day. However, we ask that
the traveling public plan for the full closure during the times posted.
Project Challenges
The project involves the removing of an amazing quantity of 1.7 million m3 of
material. This is enough rock to fill a line of dump trucks bumper-to-bumper
from Regina to Vancouver and enough dirt to reach from Regina to Thunder Bay . . .
or enough material to fill a ring of wheelbarrows around the world! Extensive
blasting is required and each blast produces considerable material to remove.
You can appreciate this does result in some delays to the traveling public.
Minor Delays
Minor stops for our dump truck crossings of the highway can be anticipated
anytime from 7:00 a.m. through to 5:00 p.m. Additionally, sections of the
highway may have single lane alternating traffic. This is necessary to
accommodate filling of dump trucks along that section.
Thank you for your continued patience. Please obey flaggers and
reduce speeds through the Construction Zone .... our flaggers do
appreciate a smile and a wave :-)
