On FRIDAY, OCT. 24, 2008, HWY 97 WAS CLOSED IN BOTH DIRECTIONS
Highway 97 was closed until further notice between Summerland and Peachland on Friday Oct. 24.
A large amount of Unstable Rock shifted in place and presented significant
safety concerns for passing vehicles below. (air photo - Feb. 2008)
The rock fractures and slip points extend well beyond the project limits, outside of
Arthon's work areas. The amount involved is significant and was evaluated for stability, cause, and safety
by Arthon's Geologists and Professional advisers, as well as by the Ministry of Transportation's
Geotechnical Engineers.
UPDATE: MON. Oct 27 10:00 pm.
Slight movement in Rock Mass overnight. Road likely closed
until Thursday at a minimum. Options being considered for removal of rock.

No new information on traffic openings.... Anticipate further word
early afternoon.

Nothing new on traffic openings.... Rock slip not moving today.
Further news expected before Monday 9am from Ministry of Transportation.

This looks to be a long closure.... several days at a minimum.
The fissure opened up high on the mountain is several feet wide and perhaps 30 feet deep.
